I know there have been several guys here who had issue with installing new intakes and oil usage. I too had a problem with oil usage on one of the older engines and even now find the engine we put in last week runs well, but seems to have used about a qt of oil in less then 200 miles? The bottom end was very good and only had 18k miles when we installed a cam and heads.
The usage is following the same pattern as the older engine: uses oil but no blue smoke, plugs looked good, although 6 & 8 were a little wet(gas-not oil).
I spoke to Edelbrock a few weeks ago and they said to use the 1205's instead of the 1256's I used prior with the RPM intake. The 1256 were recommended for the performer intake, not the 1205.
I paid a lot of attention to the install on the intake. Clean surfaces, a bead of "the right stuff" around the water jackets, used high tac to glue the side gaskets in place, used " The right stuff" on the ends, torqued to 25 ft/lbs, let sit overnight.
I suspect the 1205 gasket as the oil problem but don't see where I went wrong? What did you guys end up doing or finding out?
What about the stock PCV,if bad or the incorrect rating will that cause the usage?
I've always used 1205 or 1206's and never had an oil consumption problem. I wonder if the heads have been milled incorrectly. If you pull the intake, look at the gaskets for depressions caused by the intake ports. Look for oil seepage paths.
