My has developed a new sound that bothers me a bit...
When I press down on the clutch I get a chirping sound from in front of me. The chirping rhythm is proportional and changes tune as I rev the engine. If I rev high enough, it goes away. If I put the tranny in neutral, and release the clutch, the chirping pretty much goes away. When driving, it only chirps when I change gears clutch disengaged). Oh yeah - its intermittient too. Happens about 80% of the time when I am at a stoplight. If I just get off the highway after runnig a while in fourth, it takes a few stops before the sound presents itself again...
Yes, I just did this on my car. And don't forget all the while you're at it stuff. I replaced the trasmission mount, clutch fork, and pilot bearing. There was just a thread on replacing the pilot bearing. Mine was a real pain to remove, I finally got it with a slide hammer I borrowed from Auto-Zone.
Is this a do at home job? If so - is there danger of waiting until winter if I keep driving it periodically assuming I am replacing the fork anyway? (total of 100-300 more miles)
I drove my car with a bad slipping clutch for close to a year before I had the funds to change it (over 1000 miles). I don't think another 300 miles is going to destroy your tranny.
shouldn't the throwout bearing STOP rotating when I push in the clutch pedal? If it's not rotating when I disengage the clutch, why would it make noise?
Evrything I am reading about it now indicates that it only makes noise when the clutch is engaged, not when mine is making noise when the clutch is disengaged....
