Default Rear wheel bearings

Greetings all.
I have decided to replace the rear wheel bearings on the 76, getting some funky feelings and noises at times from back there. Has anyone performed this task? Anything I should know? Special tools or tasks?

Thanks.
KC

I have several hundreds of dollars worth of set-up and r+r tools to do rear bearings. The shop manual will outline the procedure. If this is a 1 time deal for you, you might consider farming those puppies out to someone who does them on a regular basis. IMO

If you're not mechanically inclined and willing to invest some time, this is not a job for you. Otherwise, its pretty simple; except those damn bolts.

I can rebuild your bearing assemblies (not w/t-arms) for $200 a side.

The only thing harder to replace/repair for a C3 novice is the heater core. Yes, farm the job out to Van Steel. Don't try to use local resources since this is one of those things where experience makes the difference.

I first did this job as a kid, I had done alot of mechanical schlepping, but was inexperianced at presion work. Not as bad as people make it out to be, but I redid it 1-2 times. I would not perform the job now without investing in the specialty tools. Doing my own work is a matter of personal satisfaction. All that being said, next time I'm sending it out!

I think this is the way to go. There are instructions on Van Steel's website on how to get the assemblies off. I've heard many say unless you know what you're doing or have the time/money to make a few mistakes, it's best to farm it out.
