Sprocket Offset Bushing- what is it?
I am assembling the engine and now am working on the timing sprockets and chain --- The SBC rebuild book says, "Install the correct offset bushing and /or lower keyway configuration. Then install the upper sprocket and timing chain."
I don't know what they are referring to by offset bushing. My new Cloyes timing chain upper sprocket has 3 holes in the middle of it for the bolts. Am I missing something else?

No, the "sprocket offset bushing" is associated with the cam gear and yours just bolts on in one position-dictated by that locating pin on the cam face. The crankshaft sprocket on your set can be installed straight up, 4 degrees advanced or 4 degrees retarded.Good luck.

the offset bushing would go in the cam sprocket, if, you had drilled out the dowel pin hole to accept the bushing. then you could either advance or retard the cam according to what degree bushing you installed. this is in addition to the three settings on the cloyes sprockets.
