I figured this would be a great question for the all-knowing Corvette Forum. I just bought a luggage rack for my 69 coupe. Since this was originally a dealer installed option, I am not sure where best to position it. Should I just center it over the gas cap? I do want to make sure that I can store my t-tops on it. Can you guys tell me how far from the back of car your racks are mounted?
Thanks,
Revman

NCRS Technical Information Manual calls for the rear of the rack to be mounted 6" from the center rear of the car. Of course the gas lid should be centered between the bars. The period racks bolt on using 6 bolts, later production incorrect, racks have 8 bolts. The T-Tops storage is usually behind the seats. I just happen to be going thru the manual earlier today!
I installed mine myself and used the forum as a guide. I figured since it was a dealer installed option, there was some room for some slop as I am sure the dealers didn't all install them exactly.

the luggage rack on my 72' is 22 from the back window and 3 from the edge of the duck tail. it was dealer installed at malcom conner chevrolet and i have had the car since 1974. the gas cap just clears the front of the rack when opened.
I am surprised that NCRS would even list a spec. for a non factory installed accessory like a luggage rack. Any way the supplied rack in 69 was mounted totally different than the later style that you get today. It had little feet that were off to the side.

I had a dealer installed rack that looked identical to the stock ones. It was hinged at the front with quick release locks at the rear. You could raise it up to fill gas without having to remove the luggage...
