Default Valvetrain problem

I'm building a small block with a new set of Vortec heads. I took one look at the tiny valve springs that come on those heads and decided they had to go (only 75lbs on the seat). I got a set of Comp conical springs because they will fit in the spring pockets without machining. Now what I'm finding is that the bottom of the new retainers hit the valve seals at maximum lift. The Comp retainers are thicker than the stock ones. I'm considering milling .060 off the bottom of the retainer to give me clearence. That will put the bottom of the keepers about even with the bottom of the retainer. Will that weaken the retainer too much? Am I asking for trouble with this fix? It's a street motor and won't be abused, but I'd like to be able to hit 6 grand every now and then without worrying about sucking a valve or floating them.

Heads need to be machined for different valve seals.

I am partial to the Viton seals. This is how Scoggins Dickey and other dealers prep the Vortec heads for larger lifts.
