Default Carb spacer question

Here is my new motor in my 73 vette. 388 stroker. Has Victor Jr. 1-inch tall intake, and 1-inch 4-hole spacer. Comp cam xs290

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...2/Dscn1460.jpg

Any recommendations whether to keep, change or eliminate the spacer?

I think spacers generally help you make power on the top end.

Thanks. I was wondering whether too much spacer in this case could hurt.

That sounds like a pretty healthy motor you have in there. Have you run it at the drags yet. Where do you run it if you do. Ever go to Atco?

You think that is true even at a 2inch overall height? Or if so, should I try 2 inch open, rather than 4 hole?

GordonM: I havent run it yet, as I just passed the 500 mile break in. Tried it on the street though last week I will go to ATCO at the least for the 1975 and older shootout. You?

I have run many times at Atco. It is only about 20 minutes for me to go. I'll sometimes go on a Thursday night for the street muffled cars. If you get there when the gates open you can get in 4 or 5 runs before the crowd gets there. When is the 75 and older shootout?

The larger the spacer you have the more accelerator pump shot you need.

In most cases, a 1 inch open spacer works better than a 2 inch spacer..

The best spacer available is the HVH Super Sucker which combines the advantages of open and 4-hole spacers.. That's what I'm using!

Vetdrms also used that spacer and had good success with it.. I believe that he used the 2 inch version..

Plenum volume dictates how much accelerator pump shot you need. When you add a spacer you are adding plenum volume thus you need a larger volume of fuel. You can probably tune the pump to get more fuel volume. I bout they are setup to deliver 100% out of the box.

Add the spacer and see if it gives you any trouble. The pump circuit is probably a little rich anyway so adding the spacer may make it just right. My earlier post was simply to warn you of a problem. If you install the spacer and get a stumble out of the motor this is the fix.

By the way, a larger shooter won't increase fuel volume. It simply delivers what fuel volume there is faster.
