Thinking about removing the A.I.R. system from my '69,as California does not check for smog requirements on 69's. Is this a good idea? What adjustments will I have to make after removal?

Well, if it's like Texas, even if they don't check after the car's a certain age, it's still the law that you have it. If that don't bother you, it will make very little difference to your car one way or the other if you take it off or not. The AIR system's only effect on performance is the minute amount of parasitic drag it takes to actually turn the pump. Maybe a tenth of a horse? Adjustments aren't necessary, though of course you should plug the holes in the exhaust manifold. Whatever you do, DO NOT get rid of the AIR components, as they are damned valuable because many of them aren't reproduced, and most people yanked them out and threw them away back when the cars were new.
The same "**** Clowns" in the legislature that got the rolling 30 year smog inspection exemption killed last year are back trying to get the entire program killed. They want to force all vehicles that ever had smog control equipment to get smog inspections. If that happens you will need to either take your car off the street permanately, put the smog equipment back on it, or move out of state. Whatever you decide to do, save the parts.
What do your really expect to gain by removing the AIR/smog pump? Are you just trying to clean up the engine area a little, and get rid of some cosmetic clutter?
If you remove the pump, look for how the belts are routed. I dont remember if the AIR pump belt also drives the A/C or not. So there are some other considerations to look at.
After removing the AIR pump and diverter valve, the fittings that go in the exhaust manifold should also be blocked off. If you search on the Forum you may find that information on the bolt size. I think they are NPT, National Pipe Thread fitting size.
