My wiper motor in my '72 is fried. The actual motor runs, but there's melted plastic in the housing along with a wasted relay. Can any wiper motor form '68-72 work (those with the opening vacuum door).?
68 is a bit different, I can't remember exacly how. 69-72 will interchange and many 69-70 something GM motors can be made to work if you modify the wiring. I'm using a 78 Vette (non-pulse) motor on mine because it is lower profile. I looked at the wiring in the 69 shop manual and modified mine accordingly. I think you make that red wire the park instead of it being on a different lead, but it's been a while.

Actually, don't buy a used, unknown one on eBay. Call your local Advance Auto or Auto Zone and tell them what you want. Two years ago I bought a correct and rebuilt wiper motor for my 72. I ordered it at night and the next morning it was there. The only downside is that it is painted that terrible looking "rebuild" blue that you see on a lot of their stuff. A little work with lacquer thinner and the paint strips off nicely. Make sure that you tell them for the 72 since the later cars, 73 and up, use a different one. IIRC, the cost was well under $100.

Just did that a few months ago. Mine wan't painted blue, it was black. I'll try and find the P/N if you want.
I'd be interested in that P/N as well. I rebuilt my wiper motor last week and while it works fine on a bench test I'd like to have a backup plan should it not function effectively once installed.
I'll look for it when I get home. Keep pestering me if I forget.
Well, if you go to Advance Auto, it took him all of 45 seconds on the computer to find the wiper motor. I just gave him make, model and year and voila - my wiper motor. SInce most of the franchise auto parts stores are computerized, for something simple like a wiper you don't need a part number. Now, when the kid behind the counter asks me how many cylinders in my Corvette, that is when I need to give him part numbers.
Call them. I bet you can do this over the phone. I am such a regular customer (five cars) that I can special order stuff over the phone and not have to pre-pay.

You must have a well run Advance Auto store in your area. I don't purchase much from my local Advance Auto store because the kids behind the counter have no idea what they are selling. Last time I was in there I requested points and just got a dumb stare. They had to get the "old guy" to help me...he's only about 35 or so.

Yea, the OLD guy...
Anyway.. I got mine from Ecklers online.. Was easy swap in,but no door like the 71's..
Just burns me up when the auto parts guys ask what you need you tell them, and then.. Oh what year car is that.. i.e following the prompts on their little screen. No clue.. If they don't know the year, make and model, they are clueless... You have a what???
From 68' thru 82' the wiper motor's are all the same on make's/model's A,B,C,E/K,F, G.
It would be interesting on the price differance between model's for the same part.

Not true, '68 thru '72 has a motor interlock wire. This keeps the motor from running until the wiper door is completely open. There is a switch on the firewall that completes the motor power circuit when the door opens and closes the switch. I do not think GM continued with this setup after they discontinued the wiper door system. I am still looking for the P/N, I haven't looked in my garage yet but I think my paperwork for it is out there.
