Default 1968 Headlight and Wpere Assembly Tech Question

i have a question about the lights

i have a march car

i am looking for the proper lights

now are the 69-74 the same on my later 68

i know there was a first design with a different stop arm for like the first 60 days of production

what are the differences with the wiper door assembly ?

i have an assembly that is supposed to be from a 68 and one from a 69 and they look exactly alike

i was told the assembly rod was different

Caution: 68 headlite housings: There may a slight difference in the door size from the early to late 68 models. Be sure the headlight door will fit in the cutouts in the nose

I've heard the early doors (that's mine, December build) are larger than the later ones. I've never measured to verify the difference. The later size doors were the size carried on for the next few years of production. My headlight doors have an L shaped bracket with an adjustable rubber stop to limit how high the light pops up. It has two threaded 1/4-20" holes in the short section of the "L" where the stop is screwed into. Depending on whether the bracket is installed on the left or right determines which hole gets used. Don't know if this gives you any idea of differences between them.

I believe the only differences in wiper doors between '68 and '69 have to do with the windshield washer nozzles. '68 nozzles attach to the underside of the grill forward of the wiper doors and have holes drilled and threaded for them. '69 nozzles were part of the wiper arm so the holes would be absent. The door may also have clearance notches for the nozzles. I'm not 100% sure about that, though.

Early 68 (or maybe all 68) headlight doors are slightly smaller than later doors. I think the correct stops are as described above.

The grill has bosses for the nozzels and is a different part number than 69. I think the wiper door is also a different part number and uses a different trim strip (no attachment at the ends). The linkage may be different since the early actuators were 1/4-20 threads and the later are 5/16-18 (I think).

If you need the part numbers I have a grill, wiper cover and headlight assy from my Nov 67 build date car and a complete set of later.

NCRS manual actually says there were THREE different sizes of headlight doors in 68 cars, each approx 1/4" larger than previous size. They don't give dates or vin#s of when they switched.

3 headlight doors on a 68! My build date is Nov 4, 1967 and my doors are about 1/4 smaller than 69 and up. I guess that means that the earliest doors were only made for a couple of months.

I took these pics of the difference between 68 and later wiper doors, grill and linkage.

The grill has notches for the nozzels, that is the only difference I can see. The blue grill is a 68 (pn3908140) and the white is 69? (pn3938153)

The wiper door (68 is blue and later is black) is differnt in two areas. The ribs are deleted in that one area and the corner was beefed up for the trim attachment screw. 68 trim did not have a hole in the end and was just held on with clips. 68 is pn3932998 and later is pn3942792.

I have several linkage assemblies and the only difference I can see are the two holes in the actuator bracket and the 1/4-20 adjustment turnbuckle.
