You have something wrong with your cooling system. A bigger radiator may fix the symptoms but it wont fix the problem.
Did you have this problem before the electric fans?
Run a thermostat?
Pressure cap?
Water pump right?
Anything odd about the cooling system?

In the 78: A/C,heavy duty rad/copper brass 7 blade fan/thermo clutch...no overheating issues
In the 69 502:4 row rad,5 blade fan,thermo clutch,no A/C...no overheating issues in traffic,idling,at speed...zilch...weather here was 90-100 F past few months...
An aluminum rad will disapate heat more efficiently..but stock setup will work...
Electric fans work good in my garage....

I just don't want to be having to worry about it, especially if I put the air on.
There is your clue. The radiator has enough capacity, it just needs airflow.

You are gettig warm in traffic since the Flex lite's can't pull enough air through the radiator. Remember the Spal's are rated differently. A lot of cheaper manufacturs use a cfm rating in "free air" not with the obstruction of a radiator.

It gets up to 115-120 here during the summer, so I should probably go for aluminum this time around.

It was only 102 today...

Is everything sealed up tight? No air going around the radiator? Back of the hood is sealed tight? Remove your air dam recently? Check your plugs, are you running lean?

Doesn't sound right...something is wrong.

Funny you should say that. I'am waiting for new seals for top of rad support, and rear of a new hood (L88) style that I had installed along with the new motor. But again I was thinking the fans draw their air across the rad thru their own shroud. I don't have an over heating problem persay, it just seems too high in traffic with no air coming in the grill. around 220. I haven't had it out on any real hot days, hence why I'm concerned. I'm thinking it may be the fans aren't doing the job more than the Rad. The motor seems fine, plugs look good, no symtoms of a problem there.

Could you show us what you did?
