72 Radio Questions
I'm new to the corvette forum- actually bought my first vette a couple of weeks ago. A '72 Briar Blue Stingray Convertible- I love it! But now I'm looking to fix/replace the stock stereo. I had looked at putting in a cd player and new head unit, but then decided that I wanted to keep it stock. I can't hear the radio all that well with the top down anyhow, so performance isn't all that much of an issue. I have a couple of questions that I hope someone might be able to help me with.
1. I think that the stock unit is stereo, not mono by the fader ***** on each post, but is there an easier way to tell?
2. If it is stereo, how many convectors should there be? Is there a convector behind the center gauge cluster.
3. Is there a multiplexer box in the '72 or did that end b/f that? I took down the passenger side dash cover and there is one convector with a single transistor/resistor on it (round thing between the metal fins), but no multiplexer box. All of the wiring and harnesses are intact, not spliced much to my surprise!
4. Off of ebay I ordered what looks like a great deal- a working "stereo" unit from a '76 but it only has a single convector- will it need another convector or multiplex box to work.
5. Currently, the stock radio doesn't turn on- probably just dead, but is there a fuse that operates only the radio?
6. Anyone know any good corvette radio guys near Atlanta?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Joe
