Ok I think i spelled accesories right, and if not oh well. My question is, will my stock accesories bolt right up if i swap in some new vortec heads? I know ill need a new intake, and my stock exhaust will bolt up, but what about every thing else? is there anything that would keep me from making this simple swap? thanks for your help
Your temp sending unit will not fit in the vortecs. You can use a new vortec temp unit and it will read about 20 degrees low - or fab up an adapter to use the original. You may have some issues with hood clearance depending on carb/intake/air cleaner. Use the gm .028 or shim gaskets to get higher compression. Enjoy the new torque!
spelling was never a strong point for me but anyways, its no problem for me to fab up an adapter for the temp sensor. as for the gasket, i planned on using the felpro .015 shim gaskets to bump compression up even more. the intake i plan to use is the edelbrock performer, and eventually i plan to install the comp cams 268h cam. I feel this should give me a whole new engine powerwise compared to my L-48 in mostly stock trim that i have now. what is the thoughts on this combo?
On my 77 one small AC bracket, that connects to an intake bolt didn't work.
I used the stock temp sensor and installed it the intake manifold water passage.
Also, if you are using the stock plug wire shields, the brackets that support them near the distributor wil have to be modified. It is doable.
