One item in my 400 engine build that's confusing me is the damper. I've been looking at the various Fluidampr models, and I'm not sure which one is best for my application. The 400 has an internally balanced crank, so I don't need to worry about external balance models. Will the smaller 6.75" damper be sufficient, or do I need the larger 7.25" version?

The larger the better the dampner.

Only u know if ur mtr is truly internaly balanced. If so then u can use a dampner of either size as long as it is made/balanced for an internal balance mtr. But the larger the dampner the better for absorbing crank vibrations. Another consideration is the timing tab on timing cover - a 6.75" dampner timing marks would be much harder to read with a 8" (stock 400") timing tab. If using an adjustable tab then not an issue.
Caution now as GM & Fluidampner do make a dampner for the 400" externally balanced mtr, but this would now unbalance an internaly balanced mtr - so u must verify what u have.
Hope this answers ur question.
BTW i bought the Streetdampner to save a few bucks and had to paint it myself. Took a few tries to get the timing marks highlighted in white. cardo0
