Default 73 restoration begun

having a complete frame off restoration, frame & some suspension parts dipped & e-coated. 1,000.00, trailing arms 1,000.00, all new suspension parts 1,900.00, brakes & ss lines 1,200.00, trans rebuild 400.00. 2,000.00 for painting everything including stuff that was e-coated & assembly. frame all done with motor & trans mounted. labor to do body, paint all inside hood, all underneath body and a show quality paint job, 4 base coars, 3 clear coats 10,000.00, labor to do total inside of car 8,000.00, thats gutting the whole inside and redoing everything. i will have to buy all parts. does this sound reasonable for all the work being done. 1973 vette

Are you saying that all that is just a labor quote?

I've never had mine painted but I thought 5 to 6 thousand was the going rate for a good paint job.

I hate to sound negative - it's your money and spend it in whatever way gives you most pleasure - but don't expect to put $18k on the value of the car. Don't get me wrong, I love '73s, but they're just not that sought after.

Maybe they will be in a few more years.

8,000 in labor? So does that mean you wont do any work your self? I personally think that kind of makes that there car but good luck anyways.

I am doing mine right now and you need $$ in there for stuff you come across that you will need to fix as its torn apart that u didnt think of or didnt count on having to fix it. I am doing 95% of the work my self and with tearing it down and redoing the frame new suspension brakes lines mounts odd peices on the frame that needed to be replaced got my frame pwder coated and blasted at a shop and im scared to look at my totals so far but have a feeling its pushing 6k without my motor and a tranny i had that was allready rebuilt thats not including my time or certain tools that i had to buy to do this work sure glad the wife cant acces my bank account

Geez that's a load of money. No, no, no, no, no. Do some of the stuff yourself and you will save ALOT of money. You can easily redo the entire interior by yourself easily. Getting all the rusty bolts out and all the parts off of the frame is going to be the hard part, but it can be done and for a whole lot cheaper than what you're getting it done for.

That's $25,500 by the way. You said all that for the outside and then you said $8,000 for the interior. I'm guessing that's what you mean. Does this include parts too? Or are the parts something to be added later? That's a ridiculous amount of money.

Default frame cost was 7,500.00

the total cost of frame including labor & parts was 7500.00. it is now a rolling chassis with engine & trans mounted. the price of the paint job was 10,000.00, does this sound about right. the only thing that seems high is labor price for interior 8000.00. the interior is already completely gutted including dash. just a empty shell. any parts for interior i will have to buy. 8000.00 to install everything

Every price you've mentioned sounds at least double of the usual range.

George, if this is you, it's nice to see you back.

If not and this is a real deal, why would you sink so much money into a car that will (at best) be worth half what you're paying? This is nuts.
