I had my transmission out for a re-seal, and I rebuilt my shifter at the same time. When I put it all back together, the shifter linkage is now out of adjustment.
It looks like the 1-2 alignment is maybe 1/2 inch off now. I didn't expect this to happen. I expected everything to line back up again.
Did I possibly put something back together wrong? I was very careful about reassembly, so I don't think any part is in the wrong place.
When you rebuild the stock shifter there is an alignment slot that you put a jig in to adjust the shift rods so that everything works right. I did my shifter a few years ago and can't remember if the rebuild instructions mentioned that. You can make one out of a piece of metal. The dimension were in my Haynes manual.

I was amazed at how much better mine shifted after I adjusted it. Just don't use aluminum to make the tool because it's not strong enough.
was it hard to re-seal the tranny? because i just installed my engine with my 4 speed, and i can see that its leaking from the bottom, where the control arms go into the tranny, i got the seals kit on ebay a while ago, but do you have any tips on how to do it? thanks
