Just bought a Edelbrock performer for my 454 (using stock hood and a q-jet with a drop base air cleaner). Would a 2.5 air filter work? have a 3 inch and it is to tall Any ideas

Thanks

I'm pretty sure that won't work. You need a factory 427 vette intake (hard to find and $$$), a Holley street dominator (discontinued since many years) or a Torker II (which is a bad intake). Or you can do what most of us have done and get a L-88 hood.

You're probably not going to get any kind of good air filter to fit under the stock hood. This is why Edelbrock tells you that it won't fit under the stock hood of Corvettes.

Intake seems to fit if i leave the air cleaner lid off ( i can close the hood with no problems) that is why i thought 2.5 air filter should work. Will try different air filter and post results.

Thanks for the info

If you use a filter that is too short the top of the air cleaner will restrict air flow into the carburetor to a point that your manifold swap will cost you horsepower instead of making it and the vents won't work properly.

Default interested in the results...

I looked at these problems and ended up getting a 427 Alum intake off of ebay. One of these days I have going to have it ported to flow bigger numbers. We are just too damn limited with the stock hood. But its a nice hood.

In fact I still use the stock air cleaner and wonder how restrictive it is..?

Does any body know what the part# is for the 427 intake?
I have the same hood clearance problem.

Default 427 intake

There are about ~ 3 people that can port that intake to flow real good numbers. They are Gessler, Wilson and Brzezinski.... you can find them at gesslerheadporting.com and castheads.com. I was going to have mine reworked but after talking with gessler I am going to wait and have the heads/exhaust and intake manifolds done together. Gessler will do exhaust manifolds too! I hope I an get the gains without going with headers. I want the car to look stock....

I got the edelbrock performer to fit, with factory drop base air cleaner and a 2.50 K&N air filter ( part #3735) and a K&N extreme top filter(part #661401). Going to use a Q-jet from SMI or Jet Performance. Any thoughts on a good Q-jet?

Thanks for the help
