Default Ac hose question

Hey guys, actually 2 questions. I am working on my C3(76) and was replacing the valve cover gaskets. In order to get to the bolt on the passanger side, I had to remove the ac compressor. Since I never run the ac, I want to leave the compressor off for the extra elbow room. Question 1: will leaving it off have any ill effects on the "balance" of the engine. A friend told me it will, I told him BS, but I thought I would ask. Question 2: do the two hose/lines going inot the back of the compresseor need to be plugged? There wasn't any refergirent in the lines upon removing the compressor. Can I just tie the lines up of the way for now(car is on jack stands and i want to start engine). I don't want to crank it over and have fluids leaking out of the hoses. If these questions sound stupid, well I'm guilty. I'm just jumping into this project while my Z06 gets finished.

1. You can remove any of the A/C components without any ill effect on the engine. They have nothing to do with balance.

2. You should cap off the hoses to prevent dirt, crap and water from getting into the system. Dirt and water will damage the components if you ever want to get the system operational again.
