I want to retain the stock hood but go back to the LT1 3" drop base A/C which does not clear with my Performer and S.D.-750. I saw a few L.R. intakes from Weiand with good flow numbers. Any input?

These are really old pics. Engine bay is much nicer but you get the idea. See the POS 2" A/C currently using

david why are you using that black spacer on the SD? turns out my 650 speed demon is in reality a 750 speed demon and i have the performer intake on my 77 and with a drop base Moroso airfilter courtesy of Lostpatrolman i have no clearance issues with a 3" filter. i wonder if the hoods are different?

edit:maybe i misread your question....are you asking about different intakes?

Your 77 has more hood clearance. The 1/2" spacer is nessesary to clear the float bowl adjustment screws. Even with the spacer gone the original LT1 base and cover won't clear. Also note the red billet CSR throttle cable plate ($75) won't work with the LT-1 A/C but I want 4" of air cleaner not 2".

do you want me to send you my drop base air filter to see if it fits your application? i will have some down time when it gets cold when i won't be driving the vette so you could check it out to see it solves your problems. and then order one if it fits your needs? mine has already been altered to fit the choke set up on the SD.....interestingly enough Lars and I , (ok mostly Lars) took it off during the tuning session.

I'm running a Weiand Action+ with a Holley 4165 spreadbore. The stock air cleaner works on my '73. I'm even using the stock divorced choke.

I'm running a Weiand stealth as well, and I'm happy with it...of course the draw to a high rise is always strong...
And my stock L48 air cleaner did fit, but a 1.5" Moroso with a 3" filter will not fit...much to my chagrin

Where did you find flow pics for intakes? I was looking for info like that when I was making decisions on manifolds. Or are you just talking about rpm range?
