Default Quadrajet rebuild kit

So...

I took a look at the carburetor on our C3 today, which is currently being stored at our neighbor's house until the day after my mom's 50th birthday (which is Saturday).

When I looked at it, I saw that it's a Rochester Quadrajet on there, and that it looks like it's in some semi-sad shape. So, I'm already thinking that we need to do a rebuild on this thing when we pick it up on Sunday.

However, I don't know where to get a rebuild kit for it. I see Edelbrock's got a rebuild kit for Q-Jets, but Edelbrock says it's for the Edelbrock Q-Jets.

I know that Holley bought Rochester, and so they carry a rebuild kit for it, but again, I have no clue which kit it is that I need.

Anyone know?

Get the numbers off the driver's side and go to Autozone/NAPA/whatever, they can look it up for you. My local parts place ordered me one, had it the next day for 30 bucks canadian.

Holley bought Rochester? I wonder how much they gave Edelbrock for it.

Lars recommended the Napa brand rebuild kit when he was TFB in Orange County. Just bring in the code on the side and they can look it up.

The NAPA/Echlin carb kits are about as good as they get. Along with the carb kit, get the Echlin NitroFill float for the carb and a new choke pulloff. If you post up or e-mail me your carb number, I can give you all the Echlin part numbers.

If you have the correct carb for your Vette, part number 7044206, 7044207, 7044210 or 7044211, the part numbers you need from NAPA are as follows:

Carb kit number 2-5736A
Float 2-440
Pulloff 2-4813

I purchased 3 rebuild kits from Napa on Lars advice and they where very good kits. I purchased a rebuild kit for my 1980 vette, and 1976 & 1978 GMC trucks.

Lars, would you know the part numbers for 7047687? Also noticed I had fuel leaking out of the bottem shaft on the passanger side. Should I be concerned about this?

Keith

Keith -
7047687 is not a good carb number - check the number again...

Fuel leaking out the throttle shafts is not a problem with the shafts. Normally, this is an indication that fuel is dribbling out the main discharge nozzle(s) above the shaft, hitting the throttle plate, and then leaking out the shaft area. Causes for this include:

High float level
Sunk float
Leaky needle/seat
Fuel boiling in bowl
Excessive throttle plate opening for idle condition (carb running on main discharge circuit at idle)

All of these issues can be corrected with a good rebuild and setup, but re-check that carb number first - there is no carb with that number.

Think I got the right number

7043208, doesn't seem to be original carb.

Just bought this car, so I'm still learning things about it.

Thanks, Keith
