I wa installing my 2500 stall convertor today and discovered the trans mount was totally broken. it was the original 25 year old mount. I recently put a 383 stroker in it and at the time had the trans out and the mount seemed fine. the added torque broke the drivers side motor
mount and I replaced it with a polyurethane mount, should I use poly on the trans mount also? maybe it broke when the motor mount broke.
I use the poly trans mt. make sure you have the "curved" surface facing the right direction, something to do with "pre-load". I have solid (steel) motor mts and that's what I use for the tranny mt, works good sofar (540ci BBC). I don't use a steel mt for the trans, to provide some allowance for flex, since my frame isn't rock-solid (welded & gusseted).
rpoL98, how is it driving with those solid motor mounts?
Anyways just put mine in today. This one makes the trans sit a little higher that stock, I might have to put it in without the preload plate because the driveshaft is up a bit too high. But you might not have this problem because I'm using a T56 which has a taller butt than the TH transmissions.
I ordered a energy suspension poly mount like torqvette, it will be here tomorrow. have most people used the preload plate with it? my current mount has no rubber left in it and the metal is sitting on the crossmember so it is hard to see what the original height was. my trans is a tTH350.
