Default Dual Exhaust questions

I'm almost ready to install a new exhaust on my 76. I need a header back 2.5" dual, no cat system. What is the going rate for a shop to custom bend and install the pipes? Has anyone used the mid america kit and modified it for headers? Any other suggestion?

Depends..a performance shop probably best..higher cost though...better at a performance shop with custom mandrel bends,etc.. my 69 3" system was around $500-600 or so...lost track as we modified some things after the first go around...
Had to get rid of the magnum race bullets...very loud...

Default exhaust system

I bought mid america chambered exhaust system and used it with shorty headers. Had to go to muffler shop for fit. They redid the first section of pipe from the header to exhaust and hung the rest plus put in a crossover for 110 bucks. I see you have a 1976, so good luck finding one who will eliminate catylitic convertors for you. Most shops will not because of laws not allowing. However that being said some will. Mine was a 1974, so I did not have cats because it was the last year for leaded gas.

I had the local Meineke (used them many times so I trust them) do mine for $250 with 2 1/2 all the way, they did a great job and were so proud of they took pics; immediate seat of the pants performance increase.

The local Vette club here has a muffler shop we use. They charged me $150 for the pipes, from the headers back to my borla's.

They would have removed the old system no trouble but I elected to have a buddy install the headers and flatbed her over to the muffler shop.

How are you going to get your 76 through inspection in NY ??

It cost me 275.00 including crossover tube behind the frame. I supplied the Ultraflow mufflers, the shop did all the rest.

These prices seem very resonable.
NY doesn't require emissions after 25 years (and no one gets under and looks).

Wrong; inspectors are mandated to check for a cat in NYS. If they don't, they can lose their license. You cat doesn't have to work, but it has to be there!

Buy the headers, muffler Xpipe or H pipe you want.

Take it to a GOOD exhaust shop and get them to fit it. I installed a "custom" stainless exhaust and then ended up modding it anyway to get a better fit and then to install an X-pipe. Figure around $3-400 to get them to install everything and have it fit really nice. Custom systems from mail order rarely are a perfect fit as they must build for the common setup.
