Default Warning hazard light switch on steering column..

The little switch on the steering column that operates the hazard warning lights wont stay in so the flashing indicators wont stay on.
Is this an easy to get hold of part and is it easy to fit? Just getting the car through its first UK MOT!

It is part of the indicator switch assembly. On the early C3's it is designed to turn itself off when you start to drive the car.(not sure about later ones) The indicator cancel cam pushes it out when you turn the wheel.
Check the switch will stay in if you move the steering wheel as the cam may be in the wrong position.
If British law requires the hazards to be able to flash when driving you will have to modify the switch to stop the hazards cancelling when the wheel is turned.

Do you have a standard (non-adjustable) or a T&T steering column in your 1975? Need to know this information. I think that I can help.

Also, is your problem that your hazard warning switch cancels when you turn the steering wheel? Or is it a problem with the switch itself?

Hi guys, its the t+t column. Didnt know it cancelled itself...learning curve and all that! will double check it tonight before I go mad stripping it!

The button just wouldnt stay in at the mot station. Not sure if motor was running...

Will post back asap! Thanks.

Ok just got back from looking at her...

The hazard warning switch will not stay in under any circumstances. You can hold it in and the lights come, as soon as you release...they stop. Couldnt see a way of actually getting to the switch, looks like I need to remove alot of hardware just to see it. Can I just wire a switch under the dash in paralell with it? there is a redundant on off switch there already. What colour are the cables that go to the switch? Thanks.

Paul,
I just sent you an eMail with all the wiring information you need to make the hazards work from a separate switch. However, I have figured out how the hazard button is supposed to detent. I will send you a scan of the underside of the switch with the small area of the stamping that you might be able to slightly deform to enable it to latch again.
