Default Shifting hard

Yesterday I could shift smooth as silk and then today I have to push/pull the shifter harder and it feels like it's catching on something. I have a stock 4 speed and original clutch. Any ideas?

The fluid level is just below the plug.

It sounds like the clutch may not be fully dis-engaging.

Where are you? In the Northeast it's getting colder here and the shifter requires a little more effort to pull through the gears.....

That's very possible because today the clutch just became a lot easier to press and I now have to hold it all the way down to the floor in order to start the car. Are these two problems related or should I be starting a new post?

Sounds like your clutch may be on the way out. When my clutch failed my car would only go into 4th gear, luckily I have 3:70 gears so I managed to limp the car home. Not too cool taking off in 4th gear LOL!...If your clutch is original like you say I'd replace it just for piece of mind.....Drew

I found that my transmission mount had worn out and my trans was sagging down low enough that the hurst shifter was hitting the cross member. I thought it was a linkage problem at first, but after driving long distances and my shifter getting VERY hot, I took a look. When it was shifted into third gear I could see the shifter hitting the crossmember which was conducting the heat from the exaust pipes through the shifter. I replaced the trans mount for 4.99 and it was good to go. Good luck finding your problem

Clutch may be fine...check master/slave operation first. Have someone press clutch pedal and watch to see if getting full travel. Pressure plate may have a broken spring. Release bearing could be hanging up on bearing retainer. Clutches slip, usually in a higher gear when accelerating when they're worn out......opposite of not releasing. Colder weather may be having a negative effect on the rubber cups in master/slave causing pressure loss. Any leaking hydraulic fluid?
