Lars; I need your help on timing or anyone else
here is my ?
Car seems to want so much timing that it will not start after a short ride. with the timing retarded where it will start every time then the car will not accelerate at all. spits and pops under any acceleration.
brand new HEI dist and new holley 770 street avenger. can anyone help where I can drive this car somewhere and have it run good there and start again?
You may want to check all engine grounds and starter connections. Get some top cylinder cleaner to make sure it doesn't have carbon buildup.

What timing specs are you set up to right now? If you can check your total timing, initial timing and tell me how much vacuum advance you're pulling in on top of that, I can see what the numbers indicate. Also: Are you running your vacuum advance off ported or manifold vacuum?
Another issue: That Street Avenger is a very lean-jetted carb, and it's extremely so for your application. This will produce some doggy performance. Once you get the timing curve taken care of, you might consider bumping the primary jetting on your carb up about 4 sizes and then jetting the secondary side so it's 8 sizes bigger than the primary.
