Default 71 Corvette Engine VIN Code HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone know the proper location of where the Engine VIN Code is supposed to be stamped? Is it on the front pad or by the oil filter. From what I have read, the location may have changed in 1970 from the front pad to the oil filter location. It seems that the Engine ID code stayed at the front pad.

On my 72 the number was stamped on the front pad, in front of the passenger side head. Often when an engine is rebuilt the block will be zero decked, and this stamping will be machined away.
Good luck,

trw

The engine codes for Corvettes up to at least 1980 are located on a pad in front of the passenger side valve cover. Here is a web site that shows you what they look like on a 1970 Corvette. Should be no different for other years. Codes will differ though.

You are confusing Camaro ID stampings with Corvette. Corvette information is on the pad. Some Camaros put the ID number by the oil filter.

Thanks for all your help!!!!!!!!!! I was looking at the format of the 1970 corvette Engine VIN stamping and wondered if you knew if it had changed in 1971 from a 9 digit code to a 10 digit code. The 1970 example was "70S404826" and mine is "C11S116512" for a 1971. I figured the S is for St. Louis and the last six if the VIN of the car. What is the C11 stand for???

Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!
