Default Bearing end play

Why do I need to measure bearing play when disassembling the trailing arms ?

To see where they were set, but it's not important. The important thing is to know where to setup the new bearings.

That's a part of the "factory" bearing check/replacement strategy.

You check the endplay beore you take them apart so you have a "baseline" when you re-assemble. By knowing the initial endplay, and the thickness of the shim (when you take it apart) you can figure out what thickness shim you will need to give you the correct endplay on re-assembly.

Nobody I know follows the factory procedure.... we all use a "set up tool" of one sort or another.

I'm not sure if a baseline has any significance if new bearings are being installed.

Thanks , So I can skip checking the old bearing and just remove it.

Yup, don't burn it off though. Use either the bearing splitter made for this or good set like a Snap On set to get the outer bearing off.
