So... a question. I am wondering if you guys can tell me why my eyes burn when i run the vette... am i running too rich? Do i need to re-jet the Holley 650 Double pumper i have on there? Here is the setup
650 Holly DP mech 2nds - chrome fuel rail for the extra horsepower
holley single plane high rise intake
fulie heads... 3782461 casting... he said they were machined for bigger valves... but i don't trust anything he tells me anymore...
1.6 rr
unknown cam but it is mildly agressive...
the larger diameter headers...
oh yeah and it is a 350 bored 30 over... i think with hyper(cant spell the rest) pistons...

too much fuel?? should i have gone with a vacuume secondary instead?
i shoudl also add that i have just ran the 3rd full tank out of the old ... 10 year old gas out of the tank as well as the fuel additives and marvel's mystery oil... so this tank is fresh and clean super... with nothing else in it and still the burning...
sorry to not know all of what i am talking about... still learnin

If your eyes burn while driving I'd look for an exhaust leak. Running rich should make the guys BEHIND you have burning eyes.

So after you get the exhaust fixed you can look into tuning the carb. Sounds like you could lean it out some.

My Camaro would make my eyes water if I stood behind it. I was thinking rich, but when I pulled the intake off, it was clear that the engine was sucking oil into the intake from the valley. The intake gasket either was not installed properly, or it was the wrong one for the particular head/intake combo. I just put the engine together, but don't have it installed. The engine could still be rich, but keeping oil out of the intake can only make the situation better.

ken... i will keep that in mind... but wouldn't i see smoke if that was the case? and a good amount of it at that? I will look into maybe taking the intake off... but think i will try the carb adjusting first... the only thing is... i think i have the screws pretty close to where they need to be... except flooring it from idle... there are no hesitations and if i turn it lower... the tends to stall even when warmed up

You would probably see some smoke, but how much would depend on how bad the leak was. If I remember correctly, my car would not really smoke when it was hot. The last time I started the car was in the dead of winter two years ago. One other reason I suggested it was that you said the heads had been machined. If the manifold was not machined to match, the chances of a leak go up.

What do your exhaust tips look like? Are they covered in soot? Have you pulled the plus to see what they look like? These things can all give you a clue as to what is being burned, fuel, oil, or both.

big cams with lots of overlap will do that.
Running it leaner will help a little

No problem. When I get the Camaro started, I am going to be looking for the same things. Hopefully, the new intake gasket solved my problems.
