Default Ceramic header question

I'm looking at new headers and exhaust for my currently all stock L48 - changes to be made in the next month or so.

The new exhaust will be either true duals with an X or H, or an undecar chambered system.

As far as the headers?!?!? What will the real difference be between headman, dynomax, or hooker (ceramic coated)? Is there any specific option that bolts on better then the others? Have any of you had problems when installing any and what were the problems? This car is just a cruiser so I'm looking for an easy bolt on solution.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Everyone here has used all the headers you mention (I'm currently in the process of installing Hooker super comps). The real trick is picking headers that will best suit your needs for the motor. You have a relatively stock car, so headers that have 1 5/8" primaries will be more then suffcient for what you are doing. Also I suggest looking into Jet-hot headers, which many swear by here. The coating is supposed to be more efficient and longer lasting then most ceramic coatings. Also you get a discount for being a forum member. www.jethot.com

The Dynomax are jet hot coated and the best bargain for the $. Easy install but the coating loses a little 'luster' over time, no biggie to me.

The first 5 or 6 inches from the heads have turned dull in the 6 years of use. Most of the "luster" will come back with a little rubbing using an ultra fine scotch brite pad.

I have the Hooker Jet Coated and they are holding up just fine. Fit was easy and I'm running true duals (Flowmasters) with no cat.

1980 L48 with 1 5/8" primary Hedman's, Jet-Hot coated (discounted and shipped by Jet-Hot from their factory in Louisiana a few years ago), true 2.5" duals custom bent by Rainbow Muffler, Clearwater, FL, h-pipe added by Rainbow and dynomax super turbo mufflers.

One header peeled and all I had to pay was the shipping to send them back; they refinished them and shipped back to me free. No issues since that time. The header didn't peel from a lean condition. It was a defective spot in the coating; it didn't adhere to the metal properly. May have had some oil or contaminant on the header at time of application; unknown. Very happy with my setup.
