Default Gasket cleaning advice needed

I need a little advice on cleaning water pump gaskets off of an aluminum block. I'm afraid of using too much pressure with a scraper, I don't want to mar the block. Anyone know of any tricks, or am I just being to paranoid about scraping the aluminum?

I use a razor blade scraper. Takes a little practice getting the angle just right but it's not difficult. Finish with some carb-cleaner sprayed on a rag or acetone.

Permatex makes a very convenient gasket remover solvent in a spray can. Works very well. I think it's mostly acetone so you could do your own home brew. Once I hit it with that and let it set for a few minutes, the gasket comes off very easy, kind of as a goo, with a razor blade.

I use a product that is designed to soften gaskets and make them easy to remove. I think it is called gasket remover. What a novel name for it. It works pretty good. Spray it on let it sit and the gasket softensa and comes right off.
