Default 69 center console removal

I have the EB console out and all visible screws from the center console. What else is required so that I can access the PW relay which is in the left front portion of the console. The console seems tight and I'm afraid to force it,am I missing something? Help please

Their are two studs on the bottom of the gage cluster. You need to remove two nuts that are very hard to see. Many times they are left off when removed.

I definitey agree with Lyle to leave the screws off the studs when you're done. They're a pain to get to and mine seems to function well without them. Future console and center gauge cluster removals will go much quicker.

(FYI) The two studs in the bottom of the bezel have 3/8" nuts on them. They're hard to see, I had to use a mirror while I put the wrench up thru the two radio side access panels.

So the shift plate and the radio must come out so you can access these screws?

You shouldn't have to remove the radio. You may be able to access the power window relay without removing the console by pulling the heater control head unit back. If have a non-AC car you will have to take the vent control cables loose before you pull everything back. If you have AC, I'm not sure what's involved as I know there are some vacuum lines you will have to deal with. Either way, working in that console is a major PIA. I had mine together and apart four different times before I got everything right. Grrrr..... They really packed 10 lbs of poo in a 5 lb bag.

If you do decide to take the nuts loose from the center gauge cluster bezel, use a mirror as others suggested but you don't have to remove the radio or the gauge cluster. I would put the nuts back though, because that supports the lower part of the gauge cluster. The dash is assembled in modules on these cars and each piece reinforces another. It's really pretty flimsy if not all the nuts and bolts are in place and tight.
