Organic brake pads are quiet. They're also very inexpensive and work fine for regular driving. If the NAPA dudes don't know what you're talking about, you can get them from VB&P.
I got my brakes pads from Napa. They don't squeak a bit. If I remember correctly, they had three versions - cheapo, medium and top of the line. I got top of the line (brake pads are so cheap that it doesn't make sense to skimp on them). I am quite pleased with them.
I have put 600 miles on my HAWK HPS pads from Vette Brakes, I got the sport package which had the pads and new rotors, they haven't made a noise yet and stop the car everybit as good, if not better.

I bought a set of brake pads called EBC Greenstuffs.
They're really nice and grippy, grab well, and no squeak with the added bonus of reduced brake dust. The ONLY thing about them that I don't like is that the backs & sides of the pads are painted an obnoxious green color (think 1970 Hemi Cuda Green) that are clearly visible through the wheels of my Saturn.
My dad liked them so well he bought a set and had them installed on his Harley-Davidson F150. He, however, had a problem with the brakes squealing horribly at first, shortly after we installed them. We pulled the wheels back off the truck, and applied Brake Quiet, which is this orange gooey stuff that goes on the back of the pads between the pads & the calipers. Doing that, the noise went away and hasn't returned since.
When the time come to replace the brake pads on the c3, I will probably go with the EBCs.
