Default Long VS Short water pump

Can anyone tell me how to tell the difference? Is the shaft length different?

If I remember correctly, it's 3/4 inch difference in the nose of the pump.

The vette short pump has a 3/4" snout (hole in the pulley that the nub at the end of the pump goes through), the legs of the long pump are longer than on a short pump but I do not know the diff

Vette short pump sits closer to block than long creating fan to rad clearance... and has a 3/4" shaft.

I just measured a couple of pumps.

Short pump is 5 3/4 inch from block to shaft flange outside and 3/4 dia. pilot. (add another 1/4 inch to outside of pulleys plus fan thickness if you have one.)

Long pump is 7 inch to outside of flange and 5/8 dia pilot.

I think there is another 'short shaft' pump that is between these but the vette one is 5 3/4.
Use one too long and there is a problem with frame crossmember and power steering pump pulley.

Guys!

Which pump would you recommend that I purchase???

My 69 Corvette is an "original" NOM Car with 350/350hp L46 original engine A/C, P/S, 4-spd (see profile)

I can either go with an "original" GM #3859326 rebuilt water pump (30 Day Warr) $145

-or-

A #38602 Stewart Cast Iron water pump (1yr warr) $89

-or-

Delco replacement (same as auto parts store) $49

I wanted to continue to keep the car original (especially the engine area) so as parts break and wear out I'll replace them with same original part (if available) however since I am not a "gear head" I'm not certain which water pump to purchase. I am sorta leaning towards the original GM rebuilt pump however, A friend (who is a gear-head and big car guy) tells me to go with the Stewart Cast iron (He said I don't need th Cast aluminum one just the cast iron one). I was told all 69 350/350hp cars used short pumps and not long pumps.

Guys, which pump should I purchase? again I'm leaning towards keeping it original, friend recommends the Stewart cast iron.
