Default 71 LT1 Temp Sender

Does anyone know where the water temperature sending unit is on a 71 LT1? I thought it was in the water passage in the intake manifold. The temp gauge is not working and I wanted to try to trouble shoot the circuit. Anyone know how to check the temp gauge to see if it is good?

Dunno about Lt1 ... but both my 71 L48 been the same. Both my 71 L48 have had 487 heads. There're two sending units linked together ... one screwed into each head ... look at the spark plugs ... they're real close to the plugs ... maybe 71 lt1 same ... dunno.

Yup in the cylinder head. There is a little nut that presses the leads onto the circuit board behind the temp guage. It fell off, that's why mine stopped working. I replaced the nut and it works perfectly now.
