I'm Swapping A Lt1 Out Of A 96 Impala Ss Into My 75 Corvette The Vette Has A 4 Speed Trans I Would Like To Retane The 4 Speed Has Anyone Done A Swap Like This I Have All The Wiring Ecm Everything From The Ss Any Help Would Be Great
At the risk of sounding stupid, how does an LT1 out of a 93-97 differ from a first gen chevy engine. What I am really trying to say, is there a way I can just use the heads, intake, and wiring from an LT1 on my gm crate 350, or would I just be further ahead if I found a complete LT1 engine?

You would not be able to... because of the opti spark. GEN II SBC are basically the same short block but GEN I engines use a Distributor. Oh yeah the water neck and pump will need to be chanmged. You can get a LT1 intake modded. to accept a GEN I distributor and run the timing like a tradition SBC using the LT1 heads and Intake... but now you need a custom computer and harness. I have seen the setup before. It would be easier and cheaper to run a TPI setup with vortec base and heads for about the same power. Slightly different RPM range though. LT1 has short runners.
See www.corvettefaq.com for more LT1 swaps. You will need to send your PCM to Street and Performance or somewhere similar to get the VATS turned off, changed to manual trans configuration, and other stuff-HOWEVER you would probably do better changing to a 95 back harness and PCM because 96 is ODB2 and you have to keep lots more stuff to make it work. 96 engines accept 95 back harnesses with no problems, you kust don't use the cam sensor. The biggest issue with a mass-air fuel injected engine swap in any C3 is the mass air flow meter mounting. If using a stock engine it is much cleaner to use speed density. Street and Performance or Howell or others can walk you through that part. Do a search on LT1 swap or Tuned-port (TPI) swap, much of the info except the Optispark is the same between them. As far as bolting to the transmission, it is no problem. You need a flywheel from a 97 4+3 I think. That should be 1-piece rear seal but not dual-mass.
I'm converting a set of cast-iron LT1 heads to the SB1 flow pattern, and using an LT1 intake with a distributor hole for the fuel injection. Since I can program my own chips (the equipment isn't that expensive), that is one issue that doesn't exist for me. BTW, I'm using a TPI computer to control all of this. No more crappy carb for me.
