Default Installing Engine+Transmission together

I am getting close to installing my 4 spd trans. and engine back into the car...
Should I install the shift linkage and shifter onto the transmission before installing into the car? I seem to recall that the shifter is difficult to get to once the transmission is installled..

A factory shifter can't be installed prior to installation. A hurst can be without the shift handle.

I installed them the engine and trans together. I use a hurst shifter and set it up(shift rods)before I replaced the trans to get it right, then removed the shifter for the install because clearance is tight then put it back on. Not to bad a job.

I installed the trans first, then the engine. You gotta do some serious tilting to get them both in together. I didn't have a helper at the time.

Info for people who haven;t worked on their stock Muncie shifter......... The shifter is not attached to the transmission. It's attached to a bracket that's mounted to the trans crossmember. The last time I installed a transmission, the shifter was in place with the shift rods hanging down. After installing the transmission, then attach the rods to the transmission levers.

I have the radiator, fan shroud and A/C condensor out of the car so is it still going to be bad? Any tips on making it easier?

Kinda looks like if you jack up the rear end and tilt the engine using a leveler, it should work.

I also had the rad support out and that makes it easier. I also used an engine leveler to tilt the engine and trans togeather.

I agree and having the radiator support bolts out and being able to tilt it forward if needed will help also. I pre-adjust my Hurst shifter and install it through the floor opening after bolting in motor/transmission unit.

Default Engine Install

Put the car on jack stands, remove the front wheel and go in from the side. This makes it very easy to install engine and trans at one time. The use of an engine leveler is a must.
