Default 72 350/TH400 - Neutral Safety Switch Problem?

Took the 72 out today (I don't think I'll have many more days like this!)and when I returned I noticed the shifter has a pressure pulling it towards low gear..not enough to shift it while I'm driving but enough to notice when I put it in park and push the release button. I didn't think much of it, but then the ignition wouldn't turn to the off position. Does this sound like a neutral safety switch issue? Where should I start?

The neutral safety switch is a large spring loaded ball so it could be applying pressure??? It is easy to remove, it is on the drivers side and has wires running to it. It is above the fluid level so you could just unscrew it and see if it is siezed causeing undo pressure.

Don't believe it is the safety switch. The items to cause pressure on the shifter are the linkage at the tranny, the interlock cable, and the detents under the console. Remove the plate at the console to check the detents (4 screws), then the cables.
