just curious why you bought the heads without any valves/springs ect?? i thought it was better to get them already matched up? just curious why you went this route,,,since i also am in the market,,,thanks carl----------------------------------------------
Is there a quanifiable performance difference between the ferrea 5000 hi-po valves and the ferrea 6000 comp valves?
Enough to justify 5 bucks more a valve?
Will the 5000 series valves stand up to 16 psi of boost?
You were smart to buy the heads bare. Those are good parts for the money. The packaged deals do not seem to have the best pieces in them.
I don't really know enough to answer with anything to add but for a boosted application, I would throw an extra $40 at the valves for the insurance if it was for added durabillity.
Ferrea's "least" expensive valves far surpass the best "severe-dutys" you can buy. Not too long ago I had a customer "snap" a Cloyes "Tru-Roller" at 8200 RPM, a 548" blown BB seeing 14# boost and bend 14 of the 6000 series valves (over 800# open pressure) without as much as a single one breaking. The remaining 2 didn't "hit" and stayed intact. This to us shows a quality piece. I've had 2 occasions where a couple of exhaust valve heads "fell" off, again "severe-dutys", while on the dyno being tested and operating at "normal" exhaust temps. And as for buying pre-assembled heads, we'd rather put parts in that we've tested over the years and know will "hang-out". Besides the fact they never seem to have the correct valves, springs, or parts in the package. Thanks, Gary in N.Y.
P.S. Whatever you do, put the best springs you can for the application, this is one area you CANT cut corners. We sell or build nothing with single springs. Comp Cam's been trying their hardest for us to use the new "beehives". While I'm calling the shots, I don't think so!

GM springs for me.
I am pretty much sold on the 330585 spring from GM. I do not equate 'expensive' with 'good'
