Hi,
When setting the starter motor clearance with shims you can get it bang on by shimming it until a certain size drill bit fits snugly ie. stick a small screwdriver through the hole in the motor & use it to lever the gear out so that it meshes with the ring gear, then check the clearance between the peaks & troughs of the meshed teeth by using the drill bit. Simple, but I've completely forgotten the size of drill to use, does anybody know what it is???
TIA
Paul
I having problems with my new mini starter on my BB , I hoped the shims would be the same as my old one , but no. The mini engaging ok but seems to stay engaged too long after the motor fires , I'm guessing it's a shim problem , I'll try to follow your advice here guys.
