Default Back with more Frame woes

Well I haven't posted in a while. I've lost a lot of steam on my Corvette work. I'm back to ask everyone's help again on my frame. First a quick update: I'm working on installing my front suspension kit from Vansteel and also trouble shooting the passenger-side lower control arm bracket. If you folks remember I got in a wreck with my '78 and the said bracket removed itself from the x-member, not sure if they're related. I had a shop reweld it but when I took off the control arm I noticed the whole bottom side of the bracket is cracked and needs to be replaced. The reason for the post is I've noticed a line in my frame that needs explaining. I don't know if it's a crack or just a problem with the stamping at the plant. It's starts from where the bracket is welded on the top and ends by the right drain hole. Here's a pic:

notice the apparent warping of the drain hole. it can also be seen here:

Don't know if you experienced people can explain it, if you can't let me know how I can test it at home. The front wheels are removed and I can't take the car anywhere, so if you know of any services that are provided that can test the integrity of the metal, or any home tests, let me know plz.

btw, I'm not supporting the car with the wheel, that's just a back up.

You know, I had that same line in my frame too. (no wreck) at least in my ownership. I ended up welding up a small bead along it and smoothing it all out.

I am sure someone else will throw in some words. to help you along.

From my expirence in metal stamping the hole deflection could have been from the factory. A lot of holes are pierced early in the stamping process. When second or third stamping hits were made to form the part the hole may have become distorted by the process it self. As far as the crack line a good welder should be able to weld it right where the car sits. Most portable welders in the yellow pages can do a job like this TIG would probably be the best it has the least amount of flash/splatter the have fireproof blankets the lay over the ajoining areas to protect them. I would gind the crack down to allow good penetration. It should be fine when finished.

While you are at it, you may want to weld in some gussets on either side of the bracket to give it some more strength.
