I'm in the process of installing a new 5" mechanical autometer speedometer in my 76. I didn't realize at the time of purchase that the original speedometer cable isn't a direct fit. Searching the forum, I saw that a 68 speedo cable should work. Just wanted to verify that this is correct and find out where I can get one. Thanks
Autozone didn't have any of them in stock, so I couldn't test fit. They had a couple of different options, I want to make sure I'm ordering the right one. I think they had a two piece cable as well. I'm not sure if I need a one piece or two piece cable. They also had a couple of different lengths. Does anyone know the correct cable and length to order? Thanks
Find out what length you used stock and use that. For these type issues I go to CarQuest and get them to give me the book. In there is an illustration guide that shows lengths and end configurations.
Picked up the 83" cable today, not sure if it's the right length. They also had a 63" cable. Hopefully I'll be able to test fit it tonight. If I have the wrong length, please let me know before I crawl up under the car. Thanks

I think the one I used is around 70". 83" is awful long! Seems like alot to "tuck and hide" JMO
I believe they had one for cruise control, not sure though. If the 83" cable is too long, I'll measure and see if the 63" is long enough. I don't want to tuck 20" of cable somewhere. I guess I'll just have to wait until I get the original one out and measure.
Couldn't get the cable out all the way tonight. Used an extension cord to get a crude measurement, it's definitely the 63" cable. I'll post the part # tomorrow after I exchange the other cable. Looks to be pretty easy to replace, plus it was only $16.99.
Autozone part # for the 63" cable is CA-3002. It was only $9.99, so not expensive at all. Hopefully I'll have a chance to install it this weekend. What have you guys done for all the indicator lights like the blinker and brake light? I haven't figured out what I want to do yet, but I would be fine without having them, as long as I knew everything worked ok.

I did a custom dash on a 1976 Monza some years back. I just used some green lights from Radio Shack for the turn signals. I painted the light black with the exception of a left or right arrow so when they blinked you just saw the arrow. I used a blue light for the high beams and various red lights for other indicators. I just painted over them to get the indicator that I wanted.
