I just purchased a 1980 that needs some work, I need to replace the rear bumper and paint the complete car. My questions are was lacquer used in 1980, and can I use the same paint on the new flex bumper sold by Ecklers that I use on the car or is there a flex agent that I need to add to the paint

From the factory, the 80's had base/clear coat paint. I believe there is a hardener that has to be added to paint the front/rear bumper covers.

The Flex-fit bumpers claim that no flex-agent is required for painting, unlike the factory urethane bumpers.

All 1980 Corvettes were originally sprayed with lacquer.
In 1981, Bowling Green (and later) Vettes used base-coat / clear
coat. St. Louis on the other hand used Lacquer in '81 until all
Corvette production moved to Bowling Green.
