Default Side Exhaust Installation Info

Does anyone have some good diagrams of all the components that go into the '69 side exhaust? The previous owner put a set of OEM sidepipes on my '68 before I bought it. It has never been run since they were installed, and clearly some of the brackets are missing. Since my AIM and all the rest of my manuals are for a '68, nothing is of much help in figuring out what I need to do to get it all set up right. Any help would be appreciated.

Nobody Got??? Maybe a scan of the '69 AIM for sidepipes? I'm making some progress, but still have hitches in the git-along.

you might check out a corvette parts catalog. they usually have decent diagrams of the factory side exhaust. Try ecklers (i don't like them but they have a good color catalog) or some other parts distributor.

Don't have an image but there are three parts that connect the sidepipe and the cover to the car.

1. There is a bracket that attaches to the front of the covers (about in line with the 2nd fender louvre). This is rivetted into the cover and uses two bolts to mount to the chassis rail. It runs inside the cover (and thus over the side pipe then straightens out to meet the chassis rail.)

2. The sidepipe itself mounts via a carriage bolt that will slide into a "keyhole" slot in the chassis rail towards the rear tires. It is a carriage bolt, 2 rubber mounts, a nut and two washers.

3. Is an S-shaped bracket that a mounts to the chassis rail and into two holes on the outer edge of the side pipe cover just in front of the exhaust tip.

Yep. Tried all the usual catalogues...Dr Rebuild, Corvette Central, Ecklers, etc. I've even searched the web for anything that may have hit. Found lots of folks selling the parts, but nobody giving up how to install them. I guess you'd get a set of instructions with a kit, but I'm not going there.

I've gotten most of the hardware I need for this, but the problems are more with getting it put together. I have my Z-brackets and can see where they would attach on the back of the center cover. Problem is, the fiberglass insulator covers don't have matching holes. In fact, there's some sort of metal tab riveted to the insulator right where the Z bar holes look like they would come thru. I thought maybe the Z bracket went between the cover and the insulator, but there's no slot in the insulator where the bend turns to go to the frame. Also, in trying to get my new stainless exhaust pipes installed, I'm hitting three black metal tabs hanging down below the fiberglass on the rocker panel. They look like they may have been installed to support the bottom of the original rocker panel and may need to come off...but without some guidance, I'm just guessing here. I guess I'll buy a '69 AIM for the pages associated with the sidepipes.

It doesn't really tell me what that tab is that is riveted on my insulator in the way of bolting straight thru the cover/insulator/Z bracket...but it also doesn't show it on this diagram. I think I'll just drill out the rivets, chuck that little metal mystery tab, match the holes in the cover thru the insulator and bolt it all together to the z bracket.

Thanks a ton!!!
