Default rebuilding my 75

Well, after a small accident in my stingray, I decided to take this winter to do a lot of work on it. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on what i should rebuild while I have the motor out of the car (I'm replacing the l-82 with gm's 350 ram jet). The car has over 100,000 miles on it, should i consider work on the cooling system, new radiator, etc? suspensionwise, i was looking at vette brakes and products performance plus system... looks like a good setup. should i replace the brakes as well, and would the tranny need a rebuild? its the 4 speed manual, im also curious which tranny this was, exactly.... was it the muncie, in 75? any other suggestions, id love some input... thanks guys.

I just completed a rebuild of my '79 L-82. While I had the engine out I was able to get to many other things while I was down there. Its tempting to me to want to replace everything that looks bad or is now easy to get to. However the costs add up fast and pretty soon you have so much $$ into the car that you won't recover. By all means , cooling and brakes should be at the top of your list of inspection. You can have the radiator leak tested and flushed to see what comes out. Brakes- you will want to look at the pads, rotors (warpage) and calipers (leaks). Transmission- Does it shift poorly now or slip? If you are mechanically inclined then you will save a lot of $$ as a DIYourseler. If you have to pay someone to do everything then the costs are way up there. Since I am on a budget I would salvage and clean up and paint anything that was still good- if it was shot I would buy new. This forum has a lot of documentation in the archives and it takes research on your part to be able to accomplish a lot of things. I have noticed that this forum will not usually answer the type of questions that you have asked because they are such broad and general topics that can be researched and answered. --No knock on you Good luck with your projects...

My 75 has a B/W T-10. I started with the idea of upgrading to a Big Block and ended up starting a full restoration. 79vetter is right about the money you won't recover, but if like workin' on stuff, don't worry about it. My vette has justified all kinds of cool tools!
