gear shift stuck!!!
Hi there, I am looking for suggestions for the following, but first let me give some background. I have a 76 L82 4 speed (not sure of the make of tranny) anyhow the vehicle has been garaged and has not been run since 1994. Currently trying to make it road worthy again. I t has less than 50K original miles. Here are some problems I'm encountering. I had the clutch pedal depressed and shifted a few times ( although it shifted hard) and whamo unable to move the shifter...2nd problem even after filling master cylinder with brake fluid, brake pedal is mushy and goes to floor. Third problem seems that the clutch pressure plate is stuck and I think this because when I attempted to start even with clutch depressed it seemed to want to move in reverse... Looking for help in these areas. Prior to attempting to start, I did new oil and filter, new battery, fresh gas etc. When I was changing plugs, prior to putting the new in I put some oil in each cyclinder. I have some carb cleaner on hand just in case the carburator acts up. Please advise with any help. Thanks, Stan in NY

stan, was the car stored with a dry fuel tank? if not it might be wise to have the tank boiled out and the fuel lines cleaned. also i would change all lubricants, transmission, rear end,etc. completely flush brake system with new brake fluid the brake fluid will attract moisture and water will not compress. i have a car that sat for 6 years. car would start and run for a while then it would stop running. cloged fuel lines. gas turns to a gell after a while and will stop up fuel lines and filters. as far as the clutch problem i would go ahead and change the clutch plate,pressure plate and thorught bearing to start with if not you will be doing it soon from personial experience. also you might want to clean, check and repack front wheel bearings. autimoblies were meant to be driven doesn't like to be stiting.
