Default Body removal update...

Doesnt seem to be allot of interested people. The other day I posted about getting started on this job & had no hits or answers to my questions. Hmmm, maybe its because I'm a new guy???

Anyway, for those who ARE interested, I got the body bolts all loosened w/o any problems...I do see some rust in the channels under the doors. Its not rotted through, but its rusty for sure. I wont be able to tell until I have the body totaly off.

Tonight, I removed all the front end bolts holding the body to the frame. No problems there. I removed the radiator, kind of a pain in the butt actually, but done. Disconnected all the wires & hoses on the top of the engine.

Tomorrow, I will diconnect the steering, brake lines & other wires that I need to. Then I'll get started on the rear of the car. I'll keep updating on the progress. This is my first Vette body off, but I'm brave!!

Try setting up an account at www.photobucket.com and then link to the photos. That usually works pretty good.

That's what I use and it works well.

You'll get a lot more response with photos!

Good luck with the project!

I'm in the process of removing my body off as well (76'). I have everything disconnected just looking for a body lift (used would be nice) and hoist. Don't forget the ground straps. I will post some pics once I get ready for the actually lift.

We have the body off of our 73 and all that I can say is .. if I knew then what I know now , I wouldn't have touched the car with a ten foot pole. But we are into it now and there is no turning back. The frame looked good on the hoist . The frame looked good with the body off. The frame looked better with the rust after we sandblasted it. In fact it was so rotted we had to get another one, so the hole gets deeper and deeper but we keep going and we just throw out reciepts now. Good luck . The only good thing is all of the suspension was new and so were the brakes and brake lines. So at least I don't have to spend thousands on that. We just work on it as money and budget allows. We have had the car for two years now. When we run out of money we just stick it in the barn for a while and then pull it out when we have more. There is alot of info here and I have found the people here to be very friendly and helpfull.

Default Rearmost part of body removal

Ok, everyone is aware of what I'm doing by now, I would think anyway......so, I disconnected all the small stuff ie: steering, brake lines, trans shifter cable, e-brake cable, yada yada.....

Now at the very back where the 8 bolts are holding the rear bumper to the frame, do I take the bolts out at the bumper or at the frame side or all of them?

Clarence, I feel for you buddy. Seems every time I break open something on mine I end up finding more things to do on it. After this thread, though, I have to say my motivation is building to go ahead and replace my mounts...

Thats just the nature of the beast with car projects. I like to think of it as a series of individual systems that interact with each other working together to make an operational vehicle.

When one system is broken, the next closest syst, that it works with is probably suffering from some type of ailement as well.

Its alot like the human body.

I got my motovation to do my body off from a few posts here too. I have only had my Vette for a little less than 2 months & I'm in deep now!

Default Rear is freed up!

Todays task was to get the rear end of the car loose from the frame. Mission accomplished I had to remove the bumper cover which was a PITA!

I'll give it a once over making sure I didnt miss anything & by the time my lift straps get here I should be ready to go. I'll take some more pics soon as I get it up.

The front end has me a little concerned.....is it just the 8 bolts in the very front of the frame that hold the entire front end on? Or did I miss a step? someone let me know if I'm being a stooge

There is a body mount in the nose of the car between the headlights. The rod that holds the vacuum canister is bolted very close to it. I just left the front crash bar in place. No real need to unbolt it. If you do unbolt the crash bar...be very careful in marking its position because that front body mount attaches to the top of it.
