I am in the process of putting the body back on my 71, and found out I need to replace both rear #4 Body Mount nuts which are inside the Body Mount reinforcement riveted to the body.
Can anyone tell me the procedure to replace these?
My #4 nuts were both broken off the plate, I inserted the new bolts from the top and the nuts (regular HomeDepot brand hexagon nuts) are now at the bottom.
To do it the way the factory did the nut was rivited on first then the metal on the outside. If you have a helper a washer and nut on the top would work. The nut on the bottom you could do without help as was suggested.
There was a post a while back with photos and all on how to do this. Try a search and see what you get. As I recall, it was very good and offered various options as how to repair.

That was mine - I can not find it anymore, the search function is not the greates...
Another member, I think NHvette hosted my pdf file with all the photos
This is strange - the link worked last night but today it doesn't
Go to search, advanced search and type 'body mounts' in the keyword field. Now type my username in the 'search by user' field. Check the little square next to 'search archive' and specify the forum in the drop down menu (C3 Corvettes 1968-82) and check 'search in child forums'.... you should find all the threads, I just did it and it worked fine.
here's a link to the thread with the file download:
On my 71 roadster, I cut out some 3/8 in. aluminum pieces that fit in the body cavity where the rusted out nuts had been, drilled and tapped them for the body mount bolts. They won't move around, and they won't rust.
My metal supports had rusted out and pushed the mounts through the fiberglass. I took some 4"x4"x1/16" metal stock and fit it inside the openning. Then drilled a clearence hole and attached the cage and nut to them. Now what was left of the fiberglass and the metal support sandwich everything together.
