Default Progress on Rear End

I got my Trailing Arms and Haft-Shafts back on Friday. The only things left is the spring, shocks, and sway bar. I made a lot of progress until I got to the Shock mounts. (last picture). What should I use to close the gap? Do I bang away until it goes together? I would hate to break something.

Any Suggestion?

Thanks

Torque down on the castle nut til the gap is gone. Otherwise after a little use, you will have a loose shock mount. You can also use a 16 oz. rubber mallet to seat it, then tighten your castle nut.

What kit is that for the camber rods? It looks like a cross between a heim joint kit and a stock camber nut kit.

Its the Vette Brakes - Street & Slalom System 1963-77. As soon as I get the back done, I will spin the car around and have at the front.

Isn't there a flat section on that shock mount ? If your slightly off it won't go in.... make sure you have a decent amount of anti seize on that mount before you pull/force it in

Yes - Yes! There is a flat spot. Don't try to force it. Rotate until the flat spot lines up and it will slide right in. Then you can tighten the nut...

I am fairly sure that I have the flat side pointing in the right direction. The flat side is on the castle nut side with the castle nut pointing to the rear of the car. The shock mount appears to be getting stuck on the shock side (front). I hit it a few times with the hammer but still no luck.

if the flat spot is in the correct location then lube it with anti seize and tighten the nut to pull the mount all the way in. It's a very tight fit.

Mine would not tighten and just pull through, I had to smack shock mount with a BFH and then tighten, alternating until I got it all the way flush with the bearing holder.

I did this job on my '77 this time last year-street/slalom kit, rebuilt trailing arms/ diff/ shafts etc.

I had the exact same problem with my new shock mounts, wouldnt torque in or knock in.It was the raised/knurled bit near the base of the shaft way to big for the hole in the fork it goes through.

What i did is filed a small amount off the raised/knurled bit of the shock mount shaft until it was a knock-in tight fit.Dont take too much off in one go though, file just a small amount off at a time, and keep trying it until your happy with the fit.

Straight out the packet mine where way too big to even nearly fit.

That was the problem. It took about 1 hour of filing and test fitting before I was able to hammer them home.

Thanks to all

Next stop spring and sway bar.
