After checking bulbs, wiring, and running various tests with no success in finding the cause of my check engine light NOT coming on during startup I replaced the ECM and that solved the problem. Also the Vette runs much smoother now.
A BIG thanks to Twin_Turbo, Stickboy, and Joe from Classic Wire for helping me track down the problem I could not have fixed this without your help!

How much does an ECM cost - if u don't mind.
Congrats. I would hate to have a check eng/trouble light on too - even though i don't have one.
BTW whats an ECM? Not a 'puter is it? Lucky i don't have 1 of those on my vette either. Problem is all the new cars do. Heck even my diesel dually has'em (3 i think).
Good to hear that Fred...guess the C5 gets a rest now ....
Merry Christmas/Happy New Year....

Thanks Rich, I drove the C3 around a little bit today, it felt good after having it out of commission for the last few weeks.
Have a Blessed Christmas and New Year

Anyways Merry Xmas for you and your vette. cardo0
I paid $80 @ AutoZone for the Cardone brand, that's not my first choice but no one could get the Borg Warner brand ($107), but hey, it works and has a lifetime warranty
pcfred,is that price with tradein or straight out price ?
You have to put up $100 for the core. I just brought the core with me when I picked up the new one and got my money back right then. It only took a day for AutoZone to get the replacement in.

Thats not a bad price for something that lasted 25yrs.

Thx for sharing fred. Good to know the controls in the C3's have reasonable pricing. As my Camaro needs a code analyser - $300 just for a rebuilt. And a separate programer to make any changes costs $400 (Hypertech).
But the crossfire has some tempting features for multi-carb setups. Turbo City in Orange Co. used to advertize these but can't tell from they're w/s. I bought a perf chip and some TBI improvements from them over 10 yrs ago as they used to fully support the Chevy Crossfire and TBI (shower head). Oh yea, that's what they had - a dual shower head TBI run by the Crossfire 'puter with some improvements.
Maybe rambling a bit here but the best deals in vette's now are the late C3's and early C4's. Its good to read others are keeping them working as they're great looking sharks (the late C3's i mean).
Good to hear you found the issue. Most people overlook the simple reasons. If your gas tank cap is not tight, this will cause the "check engine light" to come on. Sounds stupid, but very true.
Just a little tip

Yea, that happened on my wife's Honda after loosing the gas cap we went the next day to the stealer and got a replacement and the next morning the light came on (WTF???) so it just so happens I was on this forum that evening and happend on a thread about the gas cap and check engine light so I had her drive it to work the next day and the light went off
