Default What are the best Gaskets?

For christmas my dad got me a Lunati Vodoo Cam/Lifterkit with a 468 lift. It is for my right now Stock 78 vette.
Well when i install it i am going to replace every gasket in the engine, I was wondering where would be the best place to buy these,Also what kind would be the best, and longest lasting.

I am looking for a kit with every gasket for my engine,From top to bottom. I am looking for something not to expensive but gaskets that are high quality any sugestions?

http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0205&langId=-1
Anyone ever try those?^

IMHO Flepro are the best gaskets and I am not sure if they make a kit for the whole motor but do make gaskets for the whole motor. It is difficult to combine not too expensive and the high quality in the same sentence in anything

For a cam swap a complete fullset is not required. Look for Fel-Pro Perma-Dry gaskets, oil pan (1pc), v/c, and other gaskets like intake and the timing set (includes w/p and timing cover and seal) should be all you need. The Perma-Dry gaskets are more money than standards, but are the best for a leak proof seal.

Now if you have leakage from other gaskets also, than your right, this is the best time to take care of them now. Just make sure you use a torque wrench, clean the threads, and use sealer or oil on threads where required and you have no problems.

Have fun,

Later.

Ya i have a leak on a gasket on the top end. Since im going to have the engine taken apart i am going to replace all the gaskets. I want to get the best, because i dont feel like blowing one and replacing them later. Ya my heads should keep up, Its just temperary anyways, I am getting a set of Gm Vortec heads once i come up with the spare cash. But right now i have other prioritys.

Plenty of good choices for the other gaskets ... but here are two that are great value, performance & quality. BTW, you don't need anything exotic ... try & stick w/ stuff you can get locally.

Head Gasket: VictorReinz P/N 5746 ... it's 0.026" thick x 4.100" bore composite that we've used for long time in race cars ... it's also available locally at NAPA for small $. It'll work for Vortec or Non-V. Sold each.

Oil Pan Gasket: FelPro P/N OS34510T ... one-piece ... holds up great in race cars too ... locally available ... again, small$. Fits '75 thru '85 sbc pans. Sold each.

Hate to break it to ya, but all of that black gunk all over your engine... it's doing you a favor. It's sealing alot of your leaks. Try to put new gaskets on a dirty rough surface you'll kick yourself later. Save the money and do the gaskets when you redo the motor.

And when you say all the gaskets, do you mean all the gaskets? Head gaskets, timing cover gasket, rear main seal? That's a lot of work, especially if you plan to swap the heads in the near future. You'll have to use new gaskets again when you do the head swap.

LAY DOWN,,,Why not give the kid a break,,,,,,,,,,,at least he stopped the e-bonics that were in one of his first posts,,,,,,Peace,,, Moosie

But anyway I forgot the original post for a second,,, I think that you should just wait on the other gaskets especially if you have additional work planned.

Well my work planned will be Late Summer,If that soon. Theres so much going through my mind on what to do. I am just trying to find what will be the best route.
As for gaskets,I know i am going to replace most of them, I KNOW my valve cover gaskets are leaking,I think lol maybe i dont know 100%.
I am going to replace the lower half, Maybe not head gaskets and intake gaskets. But i am replacing everything i am getting to. But i thought i am going to replace every thing anyways why not buy them all at once.

I decided to get the car Drivable,Maybe wont be the best looking vette,Or nicest condition, But atlease she will run very well. Then i am gona go into the body. But right now its going into what i Need to get her driving nice. Like i found out i need front sway bar bushings, and some other little stuff.
Anyways i was looking i think i am going to go felpro,They look decent just a matter of getting a hold of the cash. (just sent in for my antique tags, So i cant wait to see if it pass's and get it legal driver)
